JUSTICE40 AND THE ITACS
The Justice40 Initiative is a government-wide effort to ensure that federal agencies aim at providing 40% of the benefits relating to federal investments in climate and clean energy to disadvantaged communities. This initiative works in partnership with state and local communities in an effort to continue a path towards energy equity.
According to the White House’s interim guidance, the initiative efforts will fall into one or more of the following seven Justice40 investment areas:
- Climate change
- Clean energy and energy efficiency
- Clean transportation
- Affordable and sustainable housing
- Training and workforce development related to the six other Justice40 investment areas
- Remediation and reduction of legacy pollution
- Critical clean water and wastewater infrastructure
JUSTICE40 Goals
- Decrease energy burden in disadvantaged communities (DACs).
- Decrease environmental exposure and burdens for DACs
- Increase parity in clean energy technology (e.g., solar, storage) access and adoption in DACs.
- Increase access to low-cost capital in DACs.
- Increase clean energy enterprise creation and contracting (MBE/DBE) in DACs.
- Increase clean energy jobs, job pipeline, and job training for individuals from DACs.
- Increase energy resiliency in DACs.
- Increase energy democracy in DACs.
